Kohmi Bettei 2017 Vol.10 〜Sing with a piano LIVE
After my piano lesson,
I went to a bookstore
to look for my next piano textbook.
When I ordered a cappuccino at the café there,
the barista asked my name so I said, “Kay.”
But as I thought,
it said Kate on the cup. AGAIN!
When I’m abroad, I go by KAY.
It’s sort of a nickname.
It was given to me by my middle school English teacher,
She was a very kind woman who gave everyone
an American nickname in her very first class.
Looking back, she probably gave us
nicknames to make it easier
for her to remember our names.
Thanks to the nicknames,
though, we all felt like we were Americans.
We even called each other
by our nicknames for fun.
But I wasn’t too happy with my nickname.
I thought “Kay” was too plain,
and I just didn’t like it.
I mean I would’ve loved something more glamorous,
like Katherine, Britney, or Natalie! Lol
But I liked Mrs.
Elizabeth because more than anything,
she was the first teacher who made me like English.
So I held onto my nickname and kept using it.
I tell them
they ALWAYS get it wrong
I’m sorry Mrs. Elizabeth,
this has been too hard for me. I’m caving…
Can I just be “Kate” instead?
