●Sushi is a world-famous Japanese food
Sushi is a world-famous Japanese food,
and I love it. I can’t live without it.
I miss it so much when I’m overseas
that I often go to sushi restaurants.
And seeing people outside of Japan enjoy sushi
makes me proud of being a Japanese.
BUT when many foreigners eat sushi,
they dip the pieces, or no,
they SOAK them in soy sauce.
It breaks my heart whenever I see that
because they’re ruining the beautifully-shaped sushi.
One reason why they do it might be
that many foreigners can’t taste sushi’s subtle flavors
because they grew up eating richly flavored cuisine.
So just as they pour a ton of sauce on steaks
or dressing on salads,
they naturally put a ton of soy sauce on sushi.
Because if they don’t,
they can’t taste much.
And so they dunk sushi in soy sauce.
YouTube videos showing how to eat sushi
I came across a lot of YouTube videos
showing how foreigners eat sushi
the wrong way,
and I thought they were hilarious.
As long as people enjoy sushi,
I don’t care how they eat,
but still these videos made me wince.
They’re funny, though,
so you should check them out.
And here’s another clip
featuring a sushi chef
who shows the right way to eat sushi.
This was funny and very instructive.
Sushi is now a food Japan can be proud of.
So we should promote the right way to eat sushi.
Funny videos are good,
but here’s another idea: Kikkoman or
some other major soy sauce company
should create an official video showing
how to use soy sauce and spread THE OFFICIAL WAY
to eat sushi among foreigners.
How about that?
we can be proud of both sushi
and how it’s eaten!
And if they need BGM for their videos,
they can always ask me,
and I would love to help!
